OUR STORY
Myko is the brainchild of a small team of academics, entrepreneurs, and visionaries who are passionate about finding ways to bring behavioural norms within planetary boundaries… Read More Our journey started with a simple experiment run by students and professors at the McGill University Faculty of Law in 2013. The experiment proved that participants acted in measurably more sustainable ways when they were presented with the impact of their choices in close to real time and the idea for Myko was born. The team understood very early on that to take their initial insights further they needed to develop a reliable impact platform and a way to show people their progress and impact in as near to real time as possible. This led to further experiments and the creation of the Myko climate impact platform, a powerful engine for delivering real time feedback mechanisms that will help change behaviour that will reduce our carbon footprint.
OUR NAME
“Myko” is the Greek root referring to the kingdom of organisms that include fungi and lichen, which are extremely sensitive bio-indicators reflecting the health of the entire ecosystem… Read More It is the fungal network that grows in symbiotic relationship with the root system to form the “mycorrhizza,” known as the internet of trees. The mycorrhizza allow a forest to communicate, sending nutrients towards seedlings and responding to impacts of drought and disease. Myko draws inspiration from Nature’s own mechanism for producing ecosystem feedback.
